FAQ about soothers

How long can nip® soothers and teats be used, and how often should they be replaced?

For both hygiene and safety reasons, you should replace the soother after one to two months of use. As a precaution, however, check it before each use, especially if your child already has teeth. If you notice any signs of damage, such as bite marks or other defects, please dispose of it immediately and replace it if necessary.

What is the difference between latex and silicone?

Latex is an amber-colored natural material obtained as a milky sap from the rubber tree. It is characterized by its high durability, elasticity, and extreme tensile and tear resistance. Latex does not build up static charge and therefore does not attract dust or lint. Silicone, on the other hand, is a transparent synthetic material. It is more durable than latex and undergoes less visual change over time. However, it is less resistant to biting, which is why latex is preferable for children who tend to bite strongly on the teat.

Why do the age ranges for nip® soothers overlap?

The age ranges for nip® soothers intentionally overlap to make it easier for you to choose the right soother. Not every baby grows at the same rate, so it is not always appropriate to switch to the next size exactly at 6 or 18 months. For example, if your baby is relatively large for their age at 5 months, you can confidently move to a size 2 soother.

Do I need to worry that my child could swallow a soother?

No need to worry—your child CANNOT swallow a nip® soother! Although it may be possible to put it completely into the mouth, its shape makes swallowing impossible. If your child does manage to put the soother fully into their mouth, please remain calm. Thanks to the many ventilation holes, your baby can continue to breathe, so there is no reason to panic. In this case, gently and carefully remove the soother from your child’s mouth.

At what age should I wean my child off the soother?

There is no fixed rule for when you should wean your child off their soother. However, most children naturally stop using it by the age of 3, and only very few continue up to the age of 5. If your child cannot or finds it very difficult to give up the soother on their own, it is best to gradually wean them off it by around 36 months.

Are nip® latex teats really safe for health?

All our nip® latex teats (amber-colored natural material made from the sap of the rubber tree) meet very strict legal requirements for baby products, as well as our own even higher internal standards. This is verified both internally and externally by certified laboratories.

Can nip® latex teats cause allergies?

nip® latex teats (amber-colored natural material made from the sap of the rubber tree) are tested by certified laboratories for their content of soluble allergens.

The results of these tests confirm our very positive experience from over 90 years of manufacturing latex teats and show no increased risk of allergies. However, for babies with a latex allergy, we recommend silicone teats, as there are generally no natural rubber products that are completely safe for people with latex allergies.
